A fork of the seemingly unmaintained Kaku OCR app for Android. This version replaces the old Tesseract engine with Google’s ML Kit OCR. It still works entirely offline, but offers significant improvements to both recognition speed and accuracy.
Future Plans:
1. AnkiConnect4Android integration
2. Yomichan/Yomitan dictionary support
3. Audio/visual recording functionality for on-the-go VN immersion (with apps like Winlator)
> Note: Due to how ML Kit works, I’m currently unable to display Kanji alternatives if a character is misinterpreted. If this becomes a major issue, I’ll consider adding a Tesseract fallback for the KanjiChoice popup. This would increase the app size, so I’m still evaluating if it’s necessary.
