Some time ago I became interested in drawing kanji. I didn't want to be able to actually draw them, but I wanted to learn their internal structure so that I would confuse them less and see the connections between various similar kanji. And the best way to test knowledge of internal structure is drawing. I didn't find a suitable solution with SRS so I created this addon for Anki.
There are 3 pre-made decks for this addon, but the addon can also be used with your own custom deck.
- kanji_writing_freq.apkg - kanji are sorted by their frequency
- kanji_writing_components.apkg - kanji are sorted by frequency, but component elements always come before the kanji that contain them
- kanji_writing_groups.apkg - in addition to component elements coming before the kanji that contain them, kanji with similar elements are grouped together
If you want to start learning useful things right away, I recommend kanji_writing_freq. If, like me, you already know many kanji to some extent, although you can't draw them, then kanji_writing_groups might be a better fit.
The validation metrics are provided for reference - you are not required to follow them. In practice, the most convenient way to judge correctness is to watch the morph animation, which shows how your drawing transitions into the reference character.
Features
- Drawing canvas embedded directly in the Anki reviewer
- Stroke validation against KanjiVG reference data with four independent metrics
- Animated result visualization (morph, draw, loop modes)
- Configurable validation thresholds per metric
- Configurable answer buttons: 4-option, 2-option, or none
- Optional guide lines on the canvas
- Pressure sensitivity support for stylus input
- Light and dark theme support
